Arrive San José, Day 1
You can arrive in San José at anytime.
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Day 2,3
Take an incredible rent a car
ride down through the mountains to Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Puerto
Viejo features white and black sand beaches surrounded by exotic tropical
vegetation. Rent a bike, hire a boat to Manzanillo or go for a hike through
the Gandoca - Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge.
Cahuita, Day 4
Continue north to Cahuita, known for its attractive beaches and national
park. Spend the day hiking the park's trails, renting bikes, snorkeling,
going for a horseback ride or simply relaxing on one of the beautiful
beaches.
La Fortuna,
Day 5, 6
La Fortuna sits at the foot of still-active Arenal Volcano. From here take a
night hike around the base of the Volcano to the sounds of monkeys above and
the distant rumbling of the volcano. Other activities include white water
rafting, horseback riding, a tour of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, or
relax in magma-heated hot springs.
Monteverde,
Day 7, 8
Travel from Lago Arenal up an alluring green mountain road into the misty
mountain air of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Explore the town and the Cloud
Forest Reserve, truly a bird lover's paradise. This unique community has
several co-operatives worth visiting. Optional activities include the Sky
Walk, butterfly garden and canopy tour.
Montezuma,
Day 9-11
Travel to the Nicoya Peninsula, with plenty of time for rest and relaxation
in the ex-hippie beach hangout of Montezuma. An optional excursion to spot
wildlife in Cabo Blanco National Park can be arranged, or simply lounge on
the beach.
Tamarindo,
Day 12, 13
A small, relaxing Pacific town, Tamarindo offers excellent. Beautiful white
sand beaches and the warm turquoise water is ideal for swimming or fishing,
and the area is a mecca for surfers from around the world. Take a kayak trip
up an estuary to look for crocs or try your luck at boogie boarding. At the
end of the day enjoy one of Tamarindo’s famous sunsets with a horseback ride
along the beach.

Return to San José for a final night on the town.
